O'Connell: 'Arquette's Stern call a mistake'

Jerry O'Connell has described David Arquette's recent discussion of his separation from wife Courteney Cox on Howard Stern's radio programme as a "bad idea".

In an interview with Pop Eater, the Defenders actor commented that as a fan of Stern's SIRIUS XM show he was entertained by the segment, but suggested that it may not have been a smart move for Arquette to be so open about his shortcomings.

"Isn't it crazy the amount of trouble David Arquette got into? I knew the second he called, it was a bad idea," he said. "But as a Howard Stern fan I was like, 'Wow this is great'. When I heard they were getting divorced I couldn't believe it. It was a little shocking."

He continued: "That phone call was such a bad idea. I know I only play an attorney on TV, but the divorce isn't finalised!"

O'Connell further explained that the Scream 4 star's biggest mistake was speaking out at all until the terms of his split were finalised.

"You're still going through the process and to come out and talk about it, you just can't do it. By the way, I don't know any personal facts but you can rest assured that some parties were upset he went out and did a public interview the day it was announced."

He concluded: "I actually did one year of law school at [Southwestern in LA] so there is a part of me that clocks into everything as a little bit of a lawyer and if I was his attorney I would have been very upset that he called the Stern show. It's going to be used against him."

Earlier this week, Arquette apologised for revealing too much personal information on Stern's programme.
