Honorary doctorate for Adiemus composer
Published Thursday, Jan 19 2006, 12:42 GMT | By Fiona Edwards
Composer of Adiemus, Karl Jenkins, will receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Wales.
The University of Wales will confer the title of Doctor of Music on the Gower-born composer at a ceremony in Swansea on March 31, to recognise his contribution to the world of music.
Jenkins was recently voted into the Classic FM hall of fame, and is the only living composer to feature in the top 10. He initially started in the world of Jazz as part of Soft Machine, but is most known for his classical works.
Adiemus is most widely known as the background tune to the building society Cheltenham and Gloucester's television adverts that featured a young pearl diver.
In addition to Mr Jenkins's honour, the ceremony will confer honorary doctorates on eight other individuals, including author Mari Ellis, physicist Ian Halliday and media adviser Elizabeth Buchanan.
