Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan has revealed that he discovered a "surreal" message from Alan Partridge on his voicemail.

Meighan was surprised to find a message from Steve Coogan in the guise of Partridge, in which the Knowing Me, Knowing You star attacked the band for naming themselves after Linda Kasabian, an accomplice to notorious serial killer Charles Manson.

According to The Sun, the rant is likely to form part of Partridge's new online comedy series.

Meighan said: "It was the most surreal thing ever. I was checking my voicemails and they were all pretty mundane - then Alan Partridge piped up.

"He was having a right go at us, saying we were setting a bad example to kids for naming the band after Linda Kasabian. It was hysterical. I love Steve Coogan, he's a funny man.

"I've kept it, though I'm slightly worried how he got my number - and that I'm going to feature on some wind-up show."

Linda Kasabian was an associate of Manson, but she ultimately served as chief witness for the prosecution in the 1970 trial that led to Manson's conviction for murder. The band named themselves after her because her name was "cool".
