The 33-year-old Underbelly actor, whose father Bert is a well-known Australian television personality, is currently spending time at a Sydney psychiatric clinic after his alleged attack on former girlfriend Rachael Taylor earlier this year.
According to Woman's Day magazine, Patti has been regularly flying from her Melbourne home to spend time with Matthew.
A family friend said: "Matt on suicide watch had the whole family desperately worried, but that fear has lessened the more his mum has become involved.
"She is a loyal woman who would never give up on her child - and she's proved that by wearing a path to his door."
