Paul Gascogine has been warned that he could face jail after being caught drink-driving.

Newcastle Magistrates' Court heard yesterday that the ex-England footballer was found to have 142 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when he was stopped on October 8, AFP reports.

This figure is over four times the current legal limit of 35mg.

District judge Stephen Earl told Gascoigne that all options "up to and including a custodial sentence" of up to 12 weeks are possible when he is sentenced.

He added: "It is fair to say, obviously, that there are a number of aggravating factors here."

The 43-year-old was banned from driving immediately and will be sentenced on November 11. He is due to appear in court for a second drink-driving charge on November 3, which he denies.
