The former footballer, who was arrested on suspicion of possessing cocaine last Thursday, reportedly sparked fears that he had alcohol poisoning after hotel staff discovered chicken curry and vomit all over the room he was staying in.
An insider told The Sun: "There was chicken curry smeared all over the TV and desk and up the walls. There was sick all over the floor and up the walls.
"There were cigarettes stubbed out on the sheets. There was a corner with ash everywhere. He couldn't speak. He needs help."
Following his arrest, it is thought that Gascoigne booked into the Newcastle South Premier Inn in Gateshead, before visiting a local pub for drinks. Reports suggest that he later phoned a taxi and borrowed £20 from the driver to buy more booze prior to returning to the hotel.
Another source said: "On Saturday, he came down about 8.30am off his face. He staggered into the fire exit door. Then he fell and hit his head on the window. Staff took his key away."
The star is now believed to be spending time at a rehab centre in Dorset.
