The couple were set free after immigration workers discovered that the father of the actor's wife Evi was born in Canada, which qualifies her for citizenship in the country, reports Reuters.
The pair had been arrested in Canada last week when police learned of several outstanding warrants issued in the US.
The warrants were issued after they failed to appear at a court hearing for allegedly squatting in a house.
"I am so proud to be a Canadian. It's a beautiful day," Evi said following her release.
The Quaids were seeking asylum in the country because they feared that they were in danger of being targeted by "Hollywood star whackers".
Randy was let go on a $9,740 (£6,114) bond. He is due in court next week.
