The actor, who has sought refuge in Canada with wife Evi, told reporters outside an immigration hearing that he believes there are a fraternity of people in Los Angeles that are killing high-profile figures for their money.
Quaid said: "We believe there are to be a malignant tumour of star whackers in Hollywood. How many people do you know personally who have died suddenly and mysteriously in the past five years?
"I have personally known eight actors, all of whom I have worked with and was close to - Heath Ledger, Chris Penn and David Carradine among them.
"I believe these actors were whacked and I believe that many others, such as Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan and Mel Gibson are being played to get at their money."
The actor and his wife have been given leave to remain in Canada after it was discovered that Evi's father was born in the country.
They currently face charges of felony burglary and trespass in Santa Barbara, CA.
