Kanye West: 'I understand Bush's anger'

Kanye West has stated that he now understands former US President George W Bush's anger over being labelled a 'racist' by the musician.

Bush recently admitted that the lowest moment of his presidency was being called prejudiced by West after Hurricane Katrina.

In an interview with DJ Devi Dev for 97.9 The Box, the 'Love Lockdown' rapper explained that he realises how difficult it must have been for the politician to have his motives questioned.

"I definitely can understand the way he feels to be accused of being a racist in any way, because… the same thing happened to me," he said. "I got accused of being a racist, and… with both situations it was basically a lack of compassion that America saw in that situation."

West then further compared Bush's response to the 2005 natural disaster to his own confrontation with Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.

The star continued: "You know with him, it was a lack of compassion with him not… taking the time to rush down to New Orleans. With me it was a lack of compassion of cutting someone off in their moment. But nonetheless, you know I think we're all quick to pull, like a race card, in America.

"And now I'm more open and the poetic justice that I feel to have went through the same thing that he went through, and I really more connect with him on just a humanitarian level because that next morning, the next morning when he felt that, I felt that same thing too."

The musician previously praised Swift for defending him in public following their altercation.
