Andrew Lloyd Webber has revealed his plans to stage a revival of hit musical Evita.

The musical tells the true story of Eva Peron, who was married to former Argentine leader Juan Peron. Argentine actress and singer Elena Roger will star as Eva. The role has previously been performed by Elaine Paige on stage and Madonna in the 1996 film version.

The musical will come to London's Adelphi Theatre in June 2006, and is due to be directed by Michael Grandage, the artistic director of London's Donmar Warehouse.

Lloyd-Webber said that when he and Tim Rice had first written Evita, they "didn't know that much about Latin American music at the time - there's so much more music available to us now".

"One of the reasons that I felt I wanted to be involved in the production was to relook at the orchestration," he explained, saying the musical was the "pinnacle of my collaboration with Tim Rice".
