Sheremet, a chef at New York eatery Nobo 57, is said to have proposed to his live-in girlfriend at their Manhattan apartment on Friday morning.
A source told Us Weekly: "They were having a nice morning together and the moment felt right, so he proposed."
Sheremet - one of Rimes's former back-up dancers - reportedly gave Silver "a beautiful antique ring" from the 1950s, set in white gold and weighing three carats.
Sheremet previously described the two as "both very happy". A summer wedding date has been set by the couple.
Sheremet officially divorced Rimes last June, after allegations of Rimes's infidelity with her former co-star Eddie Cibrian were confirmed.
