DS Icon: Rod, Jane & Freddy

This country has produced plenty of great double acts down the years - Morecambe & Wise, Little & Large, Ant & Dec, The Chuckle Brothers - but why do we always stop at the number two? If two heads are better than one, then surely three are wiser than two. If any proof was needed, look no further than legendary pop songwriters and children's entertainers Rod, Jane & Freddy. They made their name on the camp and surreal ITV hit Rainbow before going it alone with their own self-titled series and stage show that toured the UK to much acclaim.
Of course, what truly makes Rod, Jane & Freddy special is not just their TV talents, but also the mystery that remains around their unusual triangular relationship. Rod & Jane were at one time a married couple and they worked with various collaborators including Sooty funnyman Matthew Corbett and the often-forgotten Roger Walker. It was 1980 when Freddy joined and the golden lineup was formed, but this is where the facts get a bit murky. Somewhere along the line, Rod & Jane divorced, and Jane & Freddie became the new happy couple. Whatever the truth behind the saga, the trio remain good friends today and Jane can still be found on the panto circuit and in minor acting roles on screen. But if you're anything like us, you're probably keeping your fingers crossed for a Led Zeppelin-esque full reunion. They could probably fill The O2, right?
