Yesterday, it was reported that the NBA player had filed his own claim in Texas only days after Longoria filed for divorce from him in California.
"This was not meant to escalate things," a source close to Parker told People. "He filed his own papers to protect his rights during the proceedings.
"They are still committed to working this out together amicably."
The source also claimed that Parker has been dealing with the situation by focusing on his basketball career and relying on his San Antonio Spurs teammates for support.
Longoria initiated divorce proceedings this week following her discovery of text messages from another woman on Parker's phone.
