The Simon Bent-written comedy, which also stars Denis O'Hare, Richard Easton and Jennifer Coolidge, will end its run on November 28, having opened only seven days earlier on November 21.
By the time the show ends, the production will have played 22 previews and nine regular performances, reports Playbill.
Elling tells the story of two mental patients who are discharged from hospital and let back into society. Reviews for the show were lukewarm, although The Wall Street Journal called the play "as funny as a straitjacket".
