Formula One president Bernie Ecclestone has spoken out about a violent assault which left his face severely bruised.

Ecclestone was attacked by a gang on Wednesday evening in London's Knightsbridge area, close to where the billionaire has an office.

The 80-year-old was punched repeatedly in the face and received a number of kicks to the head after falling to the ground, while his girlfriend Fabiana Flosi had her earrings ripped off in the assault.

"I'm feeling it now, bit painful, it was a good whacking," Ecclestone told the Daily Express. "They said nothing to me, just went on the attack so there was no chance to feel scared or react.

"When I was on the ground I could hear Fabiana screaming for help and I took a kick or two in the head and went unconscious," he continued.

Ecclestone claimed that the attack was unnecessary as he would have handed over his possessions straight away if asked. He added that the gang won't have made much money from the crime, as he doesn't make a habit of carrying much money or jewellery to hand.

No arrests have been made in connection to the investigation so far.
