Witherspoon 'takes responsibility for divorce'

Reese Witherspoon has explained that she was partly responsible for her divorce from former husband Ryan Phillipe.

In an interview with Glamour magazine, the How Do You Know star suggested that each party must take responsibility for their own actions when a couple decides to split.

''I always say that it's very important not to blame one person," she said. "You have to own whatever part of it you're responsible for."

The Oscar winner continued: "It takes a lot of soul-searching. It's important to go through that, because hopefully you won't repeat yourself."

Witherspoon further remarked that she is confident that she will be able to use the lessons learned from her divorce to better navigate future relationships.

She noted: "I'm a very, very optimistic person, and I feel very lucky to have the chance to try again, you know?"

How Do You Know is released in on December 17 in US cinemas and January 28 in the UK.
