Green Day singer heads back to Broadway

Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong will return to the stage in the American Idiot musical next year.

The singer starred in the Broadway show for eight performances in September.

Armstrong will play St Jimmy in 50 performances in early 2011, reports Variety. His first appearance will be on January 1. The rocker will star in the show on January 1 to 9, 18 to 30 and February 10 to 27.

The musical is based on the music and lyrics Armstrong penned with Green Day.
