The Extra host had flown to Las Vegas in September to work on a fight broadcast when he got the call that girlfriend Courtney Mazza had gone into labour.
"She knew about it ahead of time," he recounted on Wednesday's Lopez Tonight. "I was going to leave on Saturday, come back on Sunday. I thought, 'There is no way the baby is going to come that early!'
"She would mess with me all the time like, 'Oh I'm feeling pains!' She'd already cried wolf a couple of times so when she called me and said she was in labour I was like, 'Yeah, yeah! Alright, I gotta go...' Then my mum called and said, 'You better get your ass over here because the baby's coming!' I knew she was serious!"
He continued: "I had 45 minutes to catch the flight and I was like, 'Hold that plane!' I get there, she has an emergency C-Section and I get in the scrubs and a half-hour later I have a daughter, which was a trip! It was like a movie!"
Lopez also revealed that his busy work schedule "hasn't really changed" since the birth of daughter Gia, which will be detailed in his VH1 show Saved By The Baby.
"I'm just doing it all and functioning on less sleep!" he joked. "I get up a little bit earlier just to play with her in the morning and try to cut the gym a little short to play with her and see her a little bit at night."
Saved By The Baby airs Mondays at 10/9c on VH1. Lopez Tonight airs weeknights at 12/11c on TBS.
