The Bad Seeds and Grinderman singer was travelling along Kingsway in Hove with his twin 10-year-old sons in his Jaguar when the crash happened, BBC News reports.
Cave and his sons, who live nearby, walked away from the scene without any injuries, despite the car having knocked over the camera and severely damaged the surrounding barriers.
Sussex Police said in a statement: "The camera belongs to the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership, not the police, and the railings belong to the local highway authority.
"Both agencies were informed. Nobody has been arrested but police inquiries are continuing."
A representation for Cave refused to comment.
