David Gilmour's son Charlie has been released on bail, following an arrest for his participation in last week's tuition fees protest.

The 21-year-old son of the Pink Floyd guitarist was arrested at his Sussex home on Sunday December 12 on suspicion of violent disorder and attempted criminal damage, after images were released of him attacking the Union flag on the Cenotaph.

Charlie was also arrested on suspicion of theft once he had been taken in to a police station in the county.

The student, who studies at Cambridge University, has publicly apologised for his actions last Thursday, when violence flared as MPs passed proposals to raise university tuition fees to up to £9,000 per year.

A total of 36 people have been arrested in connection with the protests.
