Former child star Melissa Gilbert has said that she believes Miley Cyrus "wanted to get caught" when she was taped smoking from a bong recently.

The Little House on the Prairie star, who is also a spokeswoman for parent and teen drugs and alcohol charity The Partnership at DrugFree, said that the Hannah Montana actress must have been aware of the consequences of allowing someone to tape the incident.

Gilbert told AOL News: "These days, everyone with a cellphone is a paparazzo. How high do you have to be to let a friend film you? I think she wanted to get caught."

Referring to reports that Cyrus was smoking the legal substance Salvia in the footage, the 46-year-old actress said: "That's bulls**t! I think it was marijuana."

Gilbert also said that she hoped other youngsters would see the incident as a 'cautionary tale' about drug abuse.
