DS Icon: Bob from 'Sesame Street'

"Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street... how to get to Sesame Street?!" This infectious theme tune, which is sadly rarely heard on UK screens these days, is a solid gold guarantee of impending quality entertainment. The success of the long-running US educational children's series Sesame Street has brought fame and a rock 'n' roll lifestyle for many of its stars (Big Bird, Bert and Ernie), but the lesser known cast members who kept the well-oiled entertainment machine running so smoothly have often been unheralded for their relentless efforts. For instance, would Sesame Street have been the same without local neighbour Bob? Of course not. It would have been rubbish.
Robert 'Bob' McGrath is one of the longest-lasting characters in the Street, working for over four decades on the Jim Henson production. Bob has played the straight guy to some of the all-time comic greats - The Count, Cookie Monster, Oscar The Grouch, Elmo - and worked tirelessly without ever complaining about the clashing egos on set (we're looking at you, Big Bird!). We can't actually remember the specific episode, but apparently Bob's character has a twin brother called Minneapolis (played by Jeff Goldblum), who was on a search for a Golden Cabbage of Snufferiti. Now if that doesn't warrant DS Icon status, I don't know what does!
