Dina Lohan has rejected criticisms of the Betty Ford Centre in the wake of accusations that her daughter Lindsay assaulted a staff member.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the 24-year-old actress had been involved in an altercation with Betty Ford worker Dawn Holland, and had allegedly struck her, which Lindsay has strenuously denied.

Subsequently, Holland was fired and her lawyer blasted the facility as "immoral".

Responding to the criticisms, Dina told E! Online: "They have been nothing but supportive to my daughter and my family. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about them.

"They have been wonderful to all the families not just mine. We have group [sessions] together with the other families and we have all laughed, cried and grown so much together."

Commenting on the events behind the media reports, Dina said: "[Lindsay] was upset and we were the ones that initiated the call to the police."
