Arnold told WENN that he tried to convince a distraught Grant to stay in his LA hotel room on the night of his June 27, 1995 arrest, but was later saddened to learn that his friend had rebuffed his advice.
"I asked him if he was OK [because] he was drinking a lot that day... He said, 'I'm gonna go upstairs to my [hotel] room, watch some lesbian porn, go to sleep'," Arnold said. "I wish he'd have done that."
The former Roseanne star continued: "I landed in Toronto to... 'Did you hear what happened to Hugh Grant'? I'm like, 'Did he die'? and she [the phone caller] said, 'Worse - he was arrested with a prostitute'.
"The next call was from Hugh... I'm like, '[Was it a] man or woman'? He said, 'I can't tell. I'm looking at the TV. It's confusing'."
Grant later pled no contest to a misdemeanor lewd conduct charge and was levied an $1,180 fine as well two years' probation.
Last week, Arnold suggested that Lindsay Lohan is taking her recovery from reported substance abuse addiction very seriously.
