Brinkley: 'Humour got me through divorce'

Christie Brinkley has insisted that her sense of humour was key to surviving her divorce from ex-husband Peter Cook.

The pair ended their marriage in 2008 following reports that Cook had been unfaithful.

The supermodel admitted to Prevention magazine that laughing helped her to get though such a difficult time.

"You've got to find a way to keep laughing, even if it's black humour, and my friends are very good at that," she said. "Some people think of happiness as a luxury, but it's a necessity, and you need to make space for it in your life."

Brinkley further suggested that she is not actively pursuing romantic relationships at the present time.

She explained: "Most of the time, I've got my kids with me, so I'm not as prone to meeting people… And then, you never really know if someone is talking to you because you're a celebrity. It's not my number one priority."

The star was previously married to Billy Joel for 9 years and is the mother to singer-songwriter Alexa Ray Joel.
