Her eldest grandchild Peter Phillips, son of Princess Anne, and his wife Autumn welcomed their baby daughter yesterday. A name for the child, who weighed 8lbs 8oz, has yet to be confirmed.
BBC News reports that the newborn is now 12th in line to the throne.
A statement from Buckingham Palace said: "The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Princess Royal, Captain Mark Phillips and Autumn's family have been informed and are delighted with the news."
Earlier this month, Peter's sister Zara announced that she is engaged to rugby player Mike Tindall.
