Rupert Everett has insisted that openly announcing his homosexuality limited the types of acting roles that he has been offered.

The actor, who came out over 20 years ago, told BBC Radio 4 that he believes he has been purposefully looked over for leading man roles by Hollywood powerbrokers.

"I just never got a job there [in Hollywood], and I never got a job here [in the UK], after [coming out]," he said.

Everett went on to say that his frustration over his career led him to abandon hope of ever being a success in the US.

He added: "I did a couple of films, I was very lucky at the beginning of my career... and then, I never had another job here for ten years probably and I moved to Europe."

Everett recently slammed Jennifer Aniston for starring in a series of "tasteless" movies.
