U2 honoured by Amnesty International
U2 have been honoured by Amnesty International at a ceremony in Chile, according to BBC News Online.

Amnesty International secretary general Irene Khan has praised the group for their humanitarian work, saying: "Their leadership in linking music to the struggle for human rights and human dignity worldwide has been groundbreaking and unwavering."

She added: "They have inspired and empowered millions with their music and by speaking out on behalf of the poor, the powerless and the oppressed."

The band were given the 'Ambassador of Conscience' award, which seeks to promote Amnesty International's work through its ambassadors, and were also praised for their work promoting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
