The Rabbit Hole actor told Newsday that his personal life has never attracted much interest from the international media.
"I'm wildly uninteresting. It's true," he joked.
Eckhart went on to explain that he is more interested in working with acclaimed actors and directors than focusing on his celebrity status.
The star remarked: "I have no personality within my industry, which is interesting to me. And yet I've worked with some incredibly good people.
"I've had my failures but they've always been interesting failures. If I pat myself on the back for one thing in my career, it's that I've been diverse."
Rabbit Hole is now playing in US cinemas and is released on February 4 in the UK.
