The actress announced her split from partner of eight years Macaulay Culkin this month, but kept their separation a secret while promoting her movie Black Swan.
Before the pair's break-up was publicised, Kunis was interviewed about her romance and admitted that it was not always easy.
She told Look: "I'm not going to say it's all butterflies and rainbows, you have to want to work at it. We both love each other and care about each other."
The 27-year-old also explained that she tries to keep her working and personal lives separate in order to maintain a healthier relationship.
She added: "We keep our careers and personal lives separate and I think in this industry it's important not to mix the two, because it would be draining on any relationship."
