TMZ reports that the doctor will stand trial for involuntary manslaughter after attending a preliminary hearing from January 4 until today, during which Judge Michael Pastor decided that there is "sufficient evidence" for the case to proceed.
"It was not Michael Jackson's time to go," Deputy District Attorney David Walgren said in his closing statement.
"Michael Jackson is not here today because of the negligence and reckless acts of Dr Murray."
If convicted, Murray will face a maximum of four years in jail.
Judge Pastor also ordered the suspension of his medical licence as a condition to his bail.
Murray is accused of giving Jackson a lethal dose of Propofol along with other sedatives. He has pleaded not guilty.
The singer died on June 25, 2009.
