Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson's son Chet has revealed that his parents are supportive of his burgeoning music career.

Speaking to the Washington Post, the 20-year-old college student - who recently posted his first hip-hop remixes online - said that his family appreciate his rap ambitions and that Tom in particular tries to keep "an open mind" about the possibilities.

"They do know about [my career goals] and they share my excitement. And they're also very supportive, which is something I appreciate," he explained.

"It goes without saying that the support of my parents is something that I will never take for granted and I am very thankful for."

When asked if his parents are fans of hip-hop, Chet responded: "You know, [my dad] keeps an open mind.

"I've spent a lot of time trying to show him a lot of the music that inspires me. And he does keep an open mind."

Chet, who is a theatre student at Northwestern University in Illinois, has remixed rapper Wiz Khalifa's underground hit 'Black And Yellow'.
