Question: Is there anything more amusing in this world than an old person saying inappropriate things? Answer: Obviously not. Consequently actress Margaret John is probably the funniest thing to ever come out of Wales. John has been on the TV circuit since the 1960s and has done the rounds on all the usual big gun shows - Z-Cars, Doctor Who, Blake's 7 and Lovejoy. However, it has only been in recent years that her hard efforts have finally been rewarded.
Taking on the role of Doris, the amorous granny next-door, in James Corden and Ruth Jones's Gavin & Stacey, John's talents were finally broadcast to a mainstream audience for the world to enjoy. Aged 83, you wouldn't begrudge the old girl taking a bit of a breather, but if anything, she has hit her pomp in the last decade tackling parts in The Mighty Boosh, Little Britain and stage productions of Calendar Girls and The Vagina Monologues. After finally getting the recognition that she deserves, surely only one more challenge remains for Mrs J - cracking Hollywood!
