According to Reuters, the actress and socialite is to have most of her right leg removed.
Gabor was hospitalised after a fall last year and subsequently developed a potentially life-threatening blood clot in her leg.
She has been in and out of Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Centre in Los Angeles since last summer.
Doctors told Gabor's husband Frederic Prinz von Anhalt that her chance of survival was "50-50", according to Gabor's spokesperson John Blanchette.
"They (doctors) said it was very dangerous, but they had no other option. It would kill her otherwise," Blanchette explained.
