The comedian received a mixed reaction from critics for his performance at the ceremony, while the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Philip Berk admitted that Gervais's jokes had "crossed the line".
"I'm sorry if they were offended but I'm not sorry for anything I said," he told Piers Morgan during an interview for Piers Morgan Tonight. "I don't think I did anything wrong. Those were, like, jibes at these people, and I'm sure they've got a sense of humour."
He continued: "It's not my job to worry about what people think of me, that's the job of a politician. I don't care what people think of me. They hired me for a job and if they didn't want me, they shouldn't have hired me."
Gervais joked that his girlfriend Jane Fallon had suggested they flee Hollywood.
"She said, 'I've got the fast car, here's the disguise and I have two tickets to Cuba'."
Piers Morgan Tonight continues at 9pm on CNN and at 8pm in the UK on CNN International.
