The LA Ink regular and former Monster Garage star James confirmed that they are planning to marry on Thursday.
In an interview with People announcing the news, James - who began dating Von D last year - had described the past twelve months as "the best year of [his] life because [he] fell in love with [his] best friend".
"Waking up to what @FreeJesseJames said about our engagement this morning brought tears to my eyes, in the best way possible... (sic)" wrote Von D on her official Twitter feed.
"Thank you for all the wonderful, loving congratulations from you all.. Overwhelmed with joy right now!"
In a message to James, she also joked: "I guess the 'kat' is outta the bag, eh?"
He replied: "I only said it cuz it's TRUE! I love you."
Von D and James began dating last August following James's separation from ex-wife Sandra Bullock. No further details about the wedding have been revealed.
