The Poison rocker underwent the procedure at a medical centre in Phoenix, AZ on Monday. The hole had been discovered last year when he was hospitalised following a brain haemorrhage.
A representative for the hospital has since told The AP that the procedure was successful and Michaels is recovering at the intensive care unit.
Michaels was taken to hospital last year after suffering a haemorrhage in April. The Celebrity Apprentice winner was discharged the following month, but the hole in his heart was discovered when he was re-admitted in May.
The musician became engaged to girlfriend Kristi Gibson, the mother of his two children, on the season finale of his reality series Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It last year.
