'Countdown' Riley engaged to millionaire

Countdown star Rachel Riley has become engaged to her millionaire boyfriend.

The maths wizard revealed that her partner of five years Jamie Gilbert popped the question earlier this month at her Essex home.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Riley admitted that she was somewhat underwhelmed by Gilbert's unspoken proposal during a shopping trip to celebrate her 25th birthday.

"I thought Jamie was going to propose when we went to a jewellers and he produced an amazing diamond then asked me to design a ring. But he never actually asked the question!"

She added: "When we were in the car on the way home, I asked Jamie if this meant we were engaged - he said he hoped so, so I said he ought to ask properly.

"When we got home Jamie finally got down on one knee and proposed and that’s when I got really excited. I’m so happy but it hasn’t really sunk in yet. It’ll feel real once the ring is made and it’s on my finger."
