Carrie Fisher to promote Jenny Craig

Carrie Fisher has become a spokeswoman for weight loss company Jenny Craig.

TV ads for Jenny Craig featuring the Star Wars actress will begin airing this week.

Speaking to Reuters, Fisher said that she sometimes feels hurt by insults and headlines that poke fun at her weight.

"'Carrie Fisher's tragic life'. That was one that hurt. 'Hey, how about Carrie Fisher? She used to be so hot. Now she looks like Elton John'. That hurt," she explained.

Fisher then joked: "Instead of saying I looked like Elton John, say I looked like [John's musical collaborator] Bernie Taupin. I do not look like Jabba the Hutt."

The 5ft 1in actress and author added that she decided to join the Jenny Craig programme when she realised she weighed 180 pounds. Jenny Craig offered her the spokeswoman gig after hearing she had signed up.

"I've only been fat for three and a half years," Fisher said.
