Michaels 'surprised fiancée with engagement'

Bret Michaels has revealed that he "surprised" his fiancée Kristi Gibson with a proposal.

Michaels, who proposed to Gibson in December on the season finale of his reality show Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It, spoke to Extra about the engagement.

"We've been on and off together for 16 years and I have to be honest with you, I think she was pretty surprised, because I'm one of those guys that believed in love but I've always shied away from the whole marriage thing," he said.

The Poison frontman recently underwent heart surgery, with his doctors claiming that the procedure went well and that "he will be able to return to normal activity within weeks".
