The McFly bass player and singer was apparently left shocked when Sandford - now dating West Ham United footballer Wayne Bridge - called time on their relationship last November.
"I don't think I'm over it yet," The Mirror quotes Poynter as saying. "Something like that could take years. It's just time. For Valentine's Day it will be just me and my dog."
However, his bandmate Tom Fletcher insisted that they will be there to support the 23-year-old.
"We all go to each other in times of need," he said.
