Conrad Murray's ex-girlfriend has said that she knew something was wrong with Michael Jackson when the doctor called her on the day of the pop icon's death.

TMZ reports that Sade Anding told Good Morning America that Murray had contacted her "out of the blue" on June 25, 2009 and "didn't sound like himself at all".

Anding said that Murray was reluctant to explain what was wrong, and that she heard "coughing" and a "mumbling of voices" in the background when the physician stopped talking.

The claims could potentially damage Murray's defence in his pending manslaughter trial, as he has previously suggested that he was unaware of any problems with Jackson's condition until he had ended a phone call which lasted five minutes.

However, prosecutors reportedly believe that Murray was aware of the 50-year-old's deterioration and used the calls to establish a timeline to protect himself.
