Stephen Colbert is selling a portrait of himself for charity, Comedy Central has announced.

According to Reuters, the comedian will auction Portrait 5, Stephen(s) on March 8.

"I am honoured to be sold in the prestigious manner usually reserved for foreclosed homes and champion hogs," Colbert said.

The image appeared in a December episode of The Colbert Report during an interview with actor and comedian Steve Martin.

It features Colbert in character and has been 'enhanced' by artists including Shepard Fairey, who designed the Barack Obama 'Hope' poster in 2008.

The sale has been organised to support DonorsChoose.org, a US charity which issues grants to school classroom projects.
