The Oscar-nominated actress was talking to The Observer to promote The Fighter.
She said: "I can walk past almost everybody in an airport or a supermarket unnoticed and I'm fine with that. Acting is a lowly job. I never set out to be a celebrity."
Leo explained her statement by saying that she felt an actor's life was anything but glamorous.
"It's a false limelight that we actors live under," she added. "The stories I could tell about baggage alone, living from a trunk for 30 years... It's a lowly life. But I wouldn't change it for anything."
