Elton John has responded to criticism about his new son Zachary, saying that the child's upbringing is "nobody else's business".

Speaking on Daybreak, John said that he had thought he was too old to have a child, and admitted that he and partner David Furnish expected to "get criticised".

"We are not stupid people," he continued. "We knew that we would get a lot of flak from certain areas, and we did, but we can rise above that and just bring our child up in the proper way.

"At the end of the day it's really nobody else's business."

John also told BBC One's Breakfast programme that he found fatherhood "relaxing".
