The AP reports that Havok will replace Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong for a two-week run as the play's villain St. Jimmy in March.
Guarini comes to the production after having previously starred in a stage adaptation of Pedro Almodóvar's 1988 film Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.
American Idiot, which is based on Green Day's 2004 LP, took home two awards at the 2010 Tony Awards and also received honours from Drama Desk and the Outer Critics Circle.
Havok and Guarini debut in American Idiot on March 1 at New York City's St. James Theatre.
