Christine Bleakley has admitted her "despair" at teenage girls who aspire to become WAGs.

Writing in The Mirror, the Daybreak presenter insisted that she is "proud" to be able to say that she does not rely on her footballer boyfriend Frank Lampard to buy her things.

"I recall in despair the various surveys done over recent years revealing young girls' ambitions," she said. "Be famous, or get famous by marrying someone famous seems to be about as far as ambition goes.

"Ideally, marry a footballer and that's your life sorted. I may be lumped into the latter category by some but I'm proud to say I've worked hard for anything I have."

She added: "I've always been adamant I don't need a man to buy me a handbag. I can thank my parents for instilling the hard work ethic in me and maybe that's what these girls are lacking in their lives."

Lampard recently admitted his "admiration" for Bleakley and praised her strong work ethic.
