In an official statement to People, the 'Achy Breaky Heart' singer suggested that he didn't intend for his comments to cause his daughter any emotional trauma.
"It is very important to me to work on mending my family right now," he said in the statement. "My family is the most important thing I have, and we are working together to make sure our future is stronger and healthier."
Billy Ray further remarked that he regards the turmoil caused by his recent interview to be a "learning process", adding that the Cyrus clan need time to work through "very important family issues".
The musician and wife Tish announced last October that they plan to divorce after 17 years of marriage.
