Bez sets first maracas world record

Published Friday, Mar 17 2006, 19:42 GMT | By Dave West
Bez has set the first world record for the largest ever maracas ensemble – with 407 musicians.

The event in Manchester brought together administrative workers, builders, students and Happy Mondays fans. Despite being pleased with his success, Bez invited challengers.

"We set the world record, although no doubt it will be getting broken left, right and centre now we've bothered to do it," he told The Sun. "I was freezing before we got going, but shaking my maracas actually warmed me up.

"My advice to anyone wanting to break this record now is to wait until a nice hot summer's day… then you might get a few more people turning up."

The star added: "It may have been freezing cold, but hundreds of people turned out to get off their maracas and celebrate Manchester music. I feel brilliant!"
