Phil Spector will not be allowed to leave prison in his ongoing bid to recoup $1 million (£620,809) in legal fees from his former lawyer.

The ex-record producer is currently serving 19 years in jail for the fatal shooting of actress Lana Jackson in 2003. The 71-year-old hired Robert Shapiro as his first legal consult after the killing, but parted ways with the attorney before his conviction in May 2009.

Contactmusic reports that Spector is demanding a full refund of the fees, but the music mogul's new lawyer Michael Dempsey revealed at a pre-trial hearing on Friday that bosses at California's Corcoran State Prison have refused to move him.

Spector will now testify via a taped deposition when the case goes before a jury on March 7.
